Hot Metal Detector With Fiber Optic System: ROTA-SONDE DC 2038

High temperature optics
Heavy duty fiber optics
2°, 12° or 36° detection angle

Application

Sensitive to infrared radiation, the DC 2038 is a Hot Metal Detector for material at temperatures at or above 500 °C. The special design of this sensor and its rugged construction allow it to withstand the severe environmental conditions found in the steel industry. The fiber optics permit detection of products which are difficult to detect (due to physical obstructions, space limitations, etc.) even in areas of high ambient temperature.

The DC 2038 is a self-contained sensor complete with:

  • A metal-jacketed fiber optic cable (with optional lenses)
  • A cast aluminum housing containing the complete electronic assembly, power supply with transformer, photosensitive element, and amplifier with "totem-pole" output

Working Principle

The infrared radiation emitted by the hot product is received by the fiber optic cable and transmitted to the photosensitive element. The current produced by the photocell enables the electronic circuits to deliver an all or nothing signal when hot product is in the field of view of the fiber optic cable.

As an option, a lens assembly can be attached to the fiber optic cable to reduce the field of view.

Special Features

  • Angle of view: 2, 12, 24 or 36 degrees
  • Photocell for detection at low temperatures
  • All electronics are on one plug-in PC board

Controls included under the rear cover include a test button used to simulate a hot product, a sensitivity adjustment potentiometer, an indicating LED.

As an option, a mounting foot with an air purging connection can be added to the lens assembly; a water cooling jacket for the lens assembly is also optional.
